Safeway Jordan was founded in 1987 as a pioneer in retailing services. In 1991, the Masri family purchased the company. The success of the flagship store in Shmesani led to a rapid expansion throughout the country. Today, Safeway operates a total of six full-service stores, two wholesale center, and four new Safeway Express convenience stores in Jordan.
In December 2003, Safeway Jordan operations were acquired by The Sultan Center (TSC) of Kuwait. Established in 1976 as a provider of hardware, tools, and supplies to the oil industry, TSC has expanded to become the premier retailer and leading supplier of supermarket items, perishables, and general merchandise in the Middle East.
Still trading under the established Safeway brand name, six stores are full-service operations, two are wholesale centers, and six are Safeway Express convenience stores. All stores are open seven days a week and offer a range of supermarket items, perishables, and general merchandise.
